I've never experienced receiving a long awaited item (a replacement for another ratchet pruner-Friskers) and literally having it fall apart after removing it from its packaging. Of course, I returned it for credit and more than likely will stick with the tried and true--Friskers. This was not a good purchase experience!

After 25 years of hard use, my Corona conventional anvil pruners disappeared from my porch. RJ's review convinced me to buy these Rumford pruners. I've done a lot of pruning in two days and I'm pleased.
They seem as fast as my old pruners, and I can cut indefinitely without fatigue. Reaching into an overgrown hedge, I cut stuff that would have required loppers in the past. They are lighter and smaller in my back pocket than my old pruners. On a string trimmer, they'll snip split ends.
Green is a bad color for a small outdoor tool. I tied a piece of orange flagging tape through the hole in the handle.

This is my second foray into ratchet pruners. I had switched a few years ago from my old anvil pruners, that finally gave up the ghost, to bypass pruners on the basis of bypass pruners supposedly being gentler on the plants being pruned. But I always missed the feel of the old anvil pruners, and thought the plants were OK either way. When I saw a pair of ratchet pruners at a local hardware, I decided to give them a shot. Unfortunately, they REALLY didn't work well. The mechanism was loose enough that the blade often became misaligned with the anvil, and they wouldn't complete the cut. After returning those, I did some research and bought the Rumford on Amazon. And, I am enjoying them a lot! They seem not to have the flaw of the earlier model -- generally work quite well. My hands aren't getting any younger, and I find I really appreciate the extra leverage on larger branches.

A variation on the anvil theme, our ratchet pruner increases cutting force by up to a third. So weaker hands have an easier time cutting through stems and deadwood up to 3/4" thick.
